Double Chin Reduction Treatment in Melbourne

Double Chin Reduction

This treatment is an effective, non- invasive treatment, which reduces fullness under the chin or a ‘double chin’ in both men and women. Consisting of a series of injections this is a fast and effective way of removing stubborn deposits of fat for a more contoured jawline and neck profile.

As a key opinion leader Dr Tass was amongst the first in Australia to be using this product. He was invited as part of a small team of doctors to the USA to take part in trials, now making him a national trainer for this product.

Important facts you need to know about chin fat reduction treatment

Is the treatment painful? – We ice the neck before injections to numb the skin. After injection the area can feel warm, like the feeling of sunburn. This is a temporary side effect which settles over the next hour.
Is the treatment safe? – Yes. It is a non surgical treatment with an acceptable side effect profile.
Does the treatment permanently remove double chin fat? Once your desired results are achieved, re-treatment is not expected as results are maintained for at least 4 years.
How many vials of the product will I need to treat my double chin? – The average patient needs at least 2 vials injected into the double chin fat at each treatment.
How many treatments will I need? – We recommend at least 2 treatments of at least 2 vials to see results.
How much does cost? – As each patient is different and the amount of treatment you require varies it is best to come in for a complimentary consultation with one of our doctors.
Will I see results straight away? – No, it takes up to 6 weeks for you to notice the effects. We treat patients at 6 week intervals.
What are the main side effects of treatment? – We expect swelling around the treatment area on the day. We like swelling because it means the treatment is working. In fact, we say please call us if it does not swell! Swelling means that the body is destroying fat cells. This also means we recommend icing the skin and resting at home after treatment rather than going back to work/

How does this double chin reduction work to remove double chin fat

The product contains deoxycholic acid, found naturally in the body, and helps absorb fat in food. The product is injected into the fat in the double chin area and destroys the fat cells by a process known as adipocytolysis. Once the fat cells have been destroyed they cannot store fat again. Imagine your fat cells are balloons and the product is the dart. Injecting it is like throwing a dart at fat cells. Once they have been popped they cannot be blown up again.

Who is not suitable for Double Chin Reduction treatment?

If you have no sub-mental fat then it may not suitable for you.
If you have a lot of loose skin under the chin then it may not be effective.
If you have an active infection of the skin under the chin then you cannot have treatment.

How is Double Chin Reduction injected? What happens on the day?

To treat submental fat, we place a non permanent template on the skin (see photo above) and apply water. This leaves small dots on the skin as a guide for where to inject. We then ice the area to reduce any pain and clean the skin with chlorhexidine before placing small injections into the submental (under chin) fat. The treatment requires approximately 20 small injections into the dots provided above.

What are the side effects of the treatment

The vast majority of side effects from treatment are mild and not permanent. Studies show that with each treatment side effects occur less frequently and to a lesser degree.
The most common side effect we see after treatment are as follows:
Swelling around the area injected – We expect to see swelling. It means the treatment is working! In fact, we say please call us if it does not swell. We recommend not going back to work on the day of treatment and using ice on the neck intermittently in the hours after treatment.
Temporary numbness under the chin. Approximately 50% of patients will feel this slight numbness after treatment, with symptoms wearing off after 30 days on average.
Warmth and redness – 40% of patients will feel warmth or redness under the chin on the day of treatment.
Firmness under the chin – Studies show that 16% of patients will feel firmness or ‘induration’ under the skin after treatment. This is not a worrying symptom and resolves, on average, after 51 days according to studies.

Rarer side effects such as temporary problems with weak smile and facial muscles and trouble swallowing (2%) have been reported.
The risk of affecting the smile is due to the small chance of temporarily affecting the marginal branch of the facial nerve. The anatomy of the nerves in the face differs from person to person and in 2% of treatments a small branch of the facial nerve can be affected. This would present as a temporary problem with the smile muscle (see image below). The affected side would be more difficult to perform a full smile. The problem is temporary and the average time to resolve is 44 days.

*Results may vary from person to person.

It’s a common concern for both men and women that no matter how much you diet or exercise, the fullness under the chin are a may not go away. It may be a factor of ageing, genetics or appear as a result of weight changes.
This may cause you to feel and look heavier or older than you are.

Double chin reduction is an injectable treatment that takes approximately
15-20 minutes to complete. The active ingredient is a synthetic form of Deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid naturally occurs in our bodies to break down dietary fat. It works by permanently destroying fat cells when it’s administered in a series of injections under the chin.
Most patients will see results with 1-2 sessions, although up to 6 treatments may be needed. Each treatment must be spaced at least 4 weeks apart. Downtime is minimal with only minor swelling of the neck area, which may last a few days.

Once you have had the required treatments according to your needs, you can expect a slimmer more contoured jawline and neck profile. Most people will also see some skin tightening benefits. Once you have achieved your desired results, retreatment isn’t expected.

Most patients experience mild to moderate pain or discomfort when being treated; Pain, bruising, numbness, swelling, redness, tingling are side effect that are mostly temporary and not widely common.
